DESCRIPTION

Healthy Harbors is a 5 week summer program. Students in this program explore the Salem harbors and learn about the many pollutants plaguing it. Each week students take field trips out into the community to participate in project-based learning and conduct hands on experiments and activities at the school. We combine learning and basic fun summer camp experiences at this program. Breakfast and lunch are all provided.

*This project is funded in part by a grant from the Essex National Heritage Commission.

Zero Robotics is a 5 week robotics programming competition for middle school students where the robots are miniature satellites (called SPHERES) inside the International Space Station. Students in this program will learn about robotics and how to write programming code to program a satellite to solve an annual challenge. The team’s goal is to come up with a winning strategy to compete against Zero Robotics teams from all across Massachusetts. Students will participate in field trips. Lunch will be provided daily.

The Salem at SEA* program will strengthen – and put to use – ELL high school students’ developing English language skills as they research, identify, and work toward serving a need in the Salem community. By the end of the summer students would have learned about, identified issues and developed ways to effect change in their communities.
