Johanna Rodriguez

Johanna Rodriguez

Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts

Johanna joined LEAP for Education, then Salem CyberSpace, when she was 13 years old. She had just arrived to the United States. Her GPA upon high school graduation was very low, but her desire to continue her education and improve her English language skills pushed her to attend NSCC. Johanna is currently preparing to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She has been accepted at Salem State University, Northeastern University, and is waiting to hear back from Simmons College. Her goal is to pursue a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice.

UPDATE: Johanna graduated from Northeastern University in 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services.




Quynh Dang

Quynh was 16 years old when she arrived to the United States. She enrolled at NSCC to improve her English language skills and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts, a Youth Worker Certificate and an Education Certificate. Her goal is to attend Salem State University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Ronald “Ron” Frias

After high school graduation, Ron enrolled at Salem State University but realized that his passion was to become an electrician so he then enrolled at Kaplan Institute in Charlestown. Ron finished the 8-month coursework with an A average. Kaplan set him up with an interview with United Solar Associates, where he worked after graduation. He is currently looking for new opportunities to fulfill the 8,000 hours of apprentice work required before becoming a fully licensed electrician.

Rosa turned to LEAP’s College Success Program after graduating high school. The program helped her apply to Salem State University . She is the first in her family to graduate college. Rosa plans on working full time for a year before applying to graduate school.




Yibelis Pena

Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts

After graduating NSCC LEAP’s College Success Program helped Yibelis get accepted at Northeastern University where she will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with enough financial aid and scholarships to reside on-campus. Her goal is to become a child psychologist.

UPDATE: Yibelis graduated from Northeastern University in 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
