2018 Summer Internship Program

Get a head start on your future! Be matched with a company where you will gain important workplace skills. Join our Summer Internship program and start to build a solid resume for college and future endeavors.

Open to students in 9th through 12th grades

We will accept applications starting February 15th

We will conduct interviews from March through June

The first step in applying to the Summer Internship Program is filling out the online form so that we can get to know a little bit about you and your summer interests.

Our staff will then contact you within 2 weeks to schedule an interview.
The interview should take 15 – 20 minutes.

You will receive notification of whether you are accepted for an internship after April vacation and at that point will work with staff to match you for a job. You will need to have a second interview or meeting with the employer to finalize your hiring.

If hired, you will be invited to attend an orientation/networking event with all the student interns and employers in the program!

  • Gloucester Orientation is in June – date to be announced
  • Salem orientation – date to be announced

The schedule of the internship will be decided between you and your employer and will be approximately 10-15 hours per week from July 9th through August 17th. A 2.5 hour job skills workshop will run every Wednesday  and will be required as part of your job.

  • Wednesday workshop time (Salem) –  from 9-11:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday workshop time (Gloucester) – from 1:30 – 4 p.m.

Topics will help in planning for your future and include: applying to college, exploring skills and interests, resume writing, interviewing and networking skills. There will be guest speakers every week from local colleges and businesses.

Most internships will be paid at minimum wage. There may be some positions that are unpaid. In these instances, LEAP will arrange to pay a stipend for class hours.

In Gloucester, students will receive school credit for working. Some jobs will be paid minimum wage. A stipend will be offered for taking the 6 session Wednesday class for students not paid by their employer.
